𧏠What is Monkeypox?
Monkeypox is a rare but potentially serious viral disease caused by the monkeypox virus, a member of the Orthopoxvirus family â the same family as smallpox.
The disease was once confined to Central and West Africa but has recently appeared in non-endemic countries, including India, sparking global public health alerts.
đ° Monkeypox in the News
Since mid-2022, several Indian states have reported imported and local cases of monkeypox, including Kerala, Delhi, and Maharashtra. Though not as contagious as COVID-19, it requires strict isolation and awareness to prevent outbreaks.
The World Health Organization (WHO)Â and Indiaâs Ministry of Health continue to monitor and guide prevention measures.
